Career record: 1-9
Record at school: 1-9
Last year: Gustine (1-9, 1-6) beat Turlock Christian 45-30 for its win, but was overmatched much of the season and gave up an average of 46 points.
Last league title: 2003
Last playoff berth: 2003
Coaching staff: Mike Mendonca, Dennis Nunes, Robert Villalobos, Tom Ceja, Jimmy Levingston, Ronnie LaBry, Mona Laupua. Top returners: OL/DL Josh Flores (5-10, 280), RB/MLB Alex Serrano (5-8, 200), TE/OLB Bobby Wrobbel (6-2, 210), WR/DB Matt Veilleux (6-1, 170), RB/S Marcus Rocha (5-10, 195), OL/DL Andrew Salazar, WR/DB Thomas Mello.
Top newcomers: OL/DL Josh Laupua, RB/MLB Isaiah Figueroa,, QB Josh Bettencourt, WR/DB Mekhi Vargas.
Outlook: The Redskins hope to establish ball control behind a solid line and a crew of runners led by Serrano, Rocha and Figueroa. The Redskins averaged 5 yards a carry last fall, but giving up 46 points a game meant they often had to ditch the run and turn to the pass in the second half of games. McWilliams and his staff will need to develop depth, particularly with Linden and Bret Harte on the schedule the first two weeks.
Key game: Week 4 (Sept. 14) at Orestimba. With a league title out of reach, the Redskins need to win smaller victories and hope they begin to add up. Nothing like playing a bitter rival to get the competitive juices flowing.
