Coach: George Harp

Career record: 9-11

Record at school: 9-11

Last year: Hughson (4-6, 1-5) showed some promise following a disastrous 1-9 campaign in 2010, but a non-existent passing attack doomed the Huskies in league play. It lost five straight league games, and the closest of those was 19 points.

Last league title: 1998

Last playoff berth: 2007

Coaching staff: Jason Harcrow, Reyn Franca, Jeremy Mankins, Randy Brazil, Andy Sanchez, Vince Brown, Spencer Williamson. Top returners: QB/LB Kyle Kerlee (6-0, 175, jr.), OL/DL David Lopez (6-5, 255), FB/LB Justin Denio (5-11, 190), TE/LB Dalton Taylor (5-10, 190), TE/DE Bailey Carroll (6-1, 195), WR/DB Lance Vincent (5-9, 145), WR/CB Cory Dalton (6-0, 160).

Top newcomers: RB/LB Andrew Osegueda (5-9, 180, jr.), OL/DL Adan Padilla (5-7, 235, jjr.), OL/DL Santos Sandoval (6-1, 225, jr.), Tanner Duron (5-10, 170, jr.).

Outlook: Kerlee (47 of 95, 499 yards, 7 TDs, 2 INTs; 286 yards rushing, 4 TDs) started as a sophomore last fall and the Huskies need to exploit the pass if they hope to return to the playoffs. Their O-line isn’t big enough to push through TVL foes: Graduated RB Caleb Duron had 580 yards in four non-league games, but just 245 in four TVL games. … Lopez is a three-year starter, and Huskies are counting on Padilla and Sandoval to fill in around him. Carroll (11 catches, 12.4-yard avg., 2 TDs) and Taylor (11, 12.1, 3) provide throwing options down the middle. … Fixing the defense is a priority, after allowing an average of 35 points in six TVL games, and the Huskies didn’t beat a team with a winning record.

Key game: Week 4 (Sept. 21) at Summerville. Harp is rebuilding a once-glorious program that had fallen into disrepair, while Summerville is trying to maintain its current run of success – a win here would be a big emotional boost for the young Huskies.
