Coach: James Stacy

Career record: 15-17

Record at school: 15-17

Last year: Enochs (3-7, 2-4) dropped its last three to fall from playoff contention, giving up 89 points those losses. Turnovers and lack of consistency while running the veer for the first time led to many of the Eagles’ issues, though it nearly upset Downey before losing 35-33.

Last league title: 2010

Last playoff berth: 2010

Coaching staff: Chad nelson (offensive coordinator)m Chris Olson, Afrem Grimes, Jonathan Quevedo, Ruben Torres, Luke Mohrlang, Richard Dominguez, Nick Shalita.

Top returners: RB Efrem Grimes (5-7, 200), RB Gabriel Lindsey-Turner (5-10, 210), QB/RB Trey Coooper (6-2, 180), OL/DL Justin Gilbert (6-4, 265), ILB Gunner Rutherford (5-11, 200), WR Josh Quevedo, RB Tomas Alvarez, RB/DB James Lee. Top newcomers: QB Shawn Munoz (6-0, 185, soph.), RB/ILB Jacob Cooper (5-10, 195, jr.), Steven Long, Sam Herring, Andrew Issa, Niles Graham.

Outlook: The Eagles should be more comfortable during their second year o transitioning into the veer, particularly with Grimes (556 yards, 7.8-yard avg., 6 TDs) running inside and the tandem of Lindsey-Turner (374, 5.9, 4) and Cooper (392, 5.7, 4). … Cooper was the QB as a junior, but Munoz’s arm and the prospect of having a three-year starter at the position could lead to a change behind center. … Gilbert anchors the line and the defense has more quickness than a year ago, when it gave up at least 27 points in five of the seven losses.

Key game: Week 3 (Sept. 5) at Turlock on Thursday. The Eagles are in the second year with the veer offense, a scheme that requires running into the middle as well as off the corners. Turlock’s big and talented, so the Eagles will need to show they can run effectively when it matters.
