MERCED -- Merced police have arrested a 28-year-old Modesto man accused of a Friday afternoon robbery of a woman at a Wells Fargo drive-through automated teller machine.
Richard Jacobs Jr. was taken into custody Friday night in Merced after a witness spotted him and notified police, Lt. Tom Trindad said.
His identity was released Tuesday after further investigation and a photo lineup before the victim.
During interviews with police, Jacobs admitted committing the robbery, saying he needed money to buy marijuana, Trindad said.
The victim told police she had pulled up to the cash machine and noticed a man standing nearby.
As she removed money from the machine, he approached and demanded the cash.
The robber grabbed the victim's arm and cash, but she gripped the money tightly.
He pulled on the bills, tearing them in half, and fled.
