-- Modesto police said they stopped a dine-and-dash at Uno's Chicago Grill on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators for the Modesto Police Department crime reduction team were at the restaurant when a waitress told them that two customers were trying to leave without paying for their lunch.

Officers stopped Shawn Sample, 41, of Escalon and Kristie Sibley, 29, of Oakdale. Sibley attempted to charge the meal with a credit card that was not hers and, when it was declined, left without payment, police said.

A search of Sample's vehicle uncovered a loaded stolen handgun, drug paraphernalia and stolen property from a department store. Sibley was wanted in Oakdale for burglary, possession of a controlled substance and theft.

Sample was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

Sibley was booked on burglary, conspiracy and the outstanding warrants from Oakdale.
