Modesto's dilemma with road safety seems to be growing, or perhaps I'm just noticing it more after losing my son tragically.

On a recent evening I took my three daughters shopping via MAX for last-minute school shopping. While waiting for the light at McHenry and Union avenues, an idiot tore out of the Wal-Mart parking lot, almost hitting us as he sped around the corner and drove up on the sidewalk we were on!

I hollered at him to slow down and he yelled obscenities at me and turned the corner, still on the sidewalk. He ran over my boyfriend's foot, then hit the fire hydrant. The idiot then sped off to avoid consequences, leaving the city to repair the damage. My girls were so frightened they started crying, and we quickly crossed the street.

Where do these drivers receive their licenses, in a gumball machine or a Crackerjack box? I'm finding it increasingly difficult to be environmentally correct and teach the girls walking is better. I think pedestrians should have their own light, one in which all motor vehicles must not move! Modesto should do something and soon. How many more people have to die?
