A Modesto man was sentenced to 23 years in state prison Tuesday after pleading no contest to attempted murder and robbery.

Kyle Williams, 20, admitted in Stanislaus County Superior Court to using a gun during a robbery and inflicting great bodily injury upon the victim of the attempted murder.

Williams said he met with the victim May 19, 2010, to buy marijuana near Coffee and Rumble roads, where he shot the victim in the head. Williams ran from the scene and later was arrested by Modesto police.

The victim continues to rehabilitate from his wound. Judge Scott Steffen sentenced Williams, who will not be eligible for parole until he has served 85 percent of his sentence.
