County releases ID of 1 of 2 men found shot to death at Del Puerto Canyon

STANISLAUS COUNTY -- Stanislaus County sheriff's detectives have identified one of two men who were found bound and shot to death on the side of the road in Del Puerto Canyon on Saturday.

The man was identified as Esteban Martinez Menera, 39, of San Jose, according to Sgt. Anthony Bejaran. He and two other men were last seen in Redwood City on Friday night, getting into a dark-green BMW X5 sport utility vehicle in the parking lot of a Target store.

Bejaran did not know whether one of the men in the car was the second victim.

About 10 miles west of Interstate 5, a passer-by spotted the men's bodies on the side of a winding stretch of the road shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday.

Bejaran said detectives believe they have identified the second victim but must contact his family before releasing his name.
