Snicker-doodles
Makes about 3 dozen
Marie Martz-Mort of Pioneer has fond memories of turning 9 and finally being able to join the local 4-H club. She chose the cooking class where the first baking project was making snickerdoodles.
Martz-Mort graciously shares her recipe.
Ingredients
½ cup butter, room temperature
¼ cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sifted flour
½ cup finely chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat oven to 275 degrees.
Blend very well the softened butter with powdered sugar and vanilla. Slowly add the flour and mix well. Stir in the nuts.
In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon.
Shape the dough into small balls. Roll the cookie dough balls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake about 30 minutes. When the cookies are done, they will still be soft on top. Remove from oven and with a spatula remove the cookies to a rack to cool.
