OAKDALE -- Police are looking for a man who they say shot at multiple people early Thursday and then crashed a car into a family's home to evade authorities.
The shooting spree started just after midnight at a home in the 1500 block of East D Street, where four to six Norteño gang members showed up at a party uninvited, according Detective Brian Shimmel.
The group was asked to leave, at which point a man opened fire in front of the home, Shimmel said.
No one was injured.
As officers investigated that shooting, they learned there was a second shooting in the 100 block of Magg Avenue near the Del Taco restaurant.
Three boys about age 12, whom Shimmel said had sneaked out of their homes, reported that a man who was with a woman in a white Scion had shot at them.
The woman in the Scion ran from the scene when the shots were fired, Shimmel said, and the man fled in her car.
None of the boys was injured. They did not know the man.
About 2 a.m., officers located a man driving the Scion near Gilbert Avenue and J Street. He failed to yield to the officers' lights and sirens, drove several blocks and intentionally crashed into a triplex, Shimmel said.
He said the impact pushed the living room wall several inches and shattered a window. Two adults were sleeping in the living room but were not injured. Two children were sleeping in bedrooms at the rear of the home.
The driver, who police say was involved in both shootings, was identified as Alex Merrill, 20, of Oakdale.
Officers searched for Merrill after the crash but could not find him.
Detectives ask anyone with information about the shootings or Merrill's whereabouts to call Shimmel or Sgt. Joseph Carrillo at (209) 847-2231.
