Chains Required

Chains Required is a 10-piece rhythm-and-blues band based in Sonora that performs pop songs from the 1960s to the present. The band has two powerful lead singers, plus a four-piece horn section with journeyman players and a rhythm section. Sierra Lodestar named the group best local band for Tuolumne County in March 2010.

John Fogerty

John Fogerty, the former frontman of country-swamp rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, plays his classic-rock hits. His CCR songs include "Born on the Bayou," "Proud Mary," "Susie Q," "Down on the Corner," "Fortunate Son," "Bad Moon Rising," "Travelin' Band" and "Lookin' Out My Back Door." His solo hits include "Run Through the Jungle," "Old Man Down the Road" and "Centerfield." The opening act is Arlo Guthrie and Family.

Hot-rod show

Hula's Restaurant holds a free hot-rod show every Friday night through Aug. 31. An average of 80 cars and trucks participate each week. The restaurant serves 21 different burgers, as well as frosties and beers. The restaurant also has an outdoor patio.

Concerts in the Park

The Oakdale Chamber of Commerce's free Concerts in the Park series continues today with a free performance by Tailights. The series continues every Friday through August. Other performers are: Dale Himes with Hip Piano Crew (Aug. 10), Oakdale Community Band (Aug. 17), Dossi on the Rocks (Aug. 24), and Barbara Findlay and Jim Ramont (Aug. 31).

Summerfest

Copperopolis Town Square is having its fourth annual Summerfest featuring live music and water play for children. Danny Burton's Copper Holdings Company will perform classic rock and pop songs in the gazebo. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Children can enjoy a slip-and-slide, water slides and bounce houses. Griff's BBQ n' Grill, Panini's Italian Grill and Snap's Coffee House and Wine Bar will serve lunch. Cruisers Ice Cream Parlor offers hot dogs and a wide selection of cool treats. The town square will showcase two new stores: VdorA, a women's boutique, and Copper Cellars, which offers specialty wines, tastings and gifts.

'Once Upon a Mattress'

Denair Gaslight Community Conservatory presents the musical "Once Upon a Mattress," Mary Rodgers' take on "The Princess and the Pea." The costumes are inspired in part by "The Hunger Games." The show stars the Denair Gaslight Community Players and is directed by Rachel Rodrigues and choreographed by Elyssa Alexander.
