TURLOCK -- The scam isn’t new, but the Turlock Irrigation District said it has received reports from customers that it’s resurfaced: someone calls your house, says you’re behind on payments and unless you pay or offer some personal information, your power will be disconnected.
TID officials Friday released a press release warning customers to be skeptical of such calls.
Some tips:
• TID does not solicit payments or disconnect power for non-payment on weekends or after business hours.
• All calls from TID come from the 209 area code.
• The district does not solicit payments through e-mail, social media or text messaging.
Anyone with questions about the veracity of a caller or someone at the door can call TID at (209) 883-8222.
