-- Wayman Strickland, the assistant women’s basketball coach at San Joaquin Delta College, will be introduced later today as the new women’s basketball head coach at CSU Stanislaus, according to Warriors’ athletic director Mike Matoso.

Strickland is a product of Archbishop Riordan High School, where in his senior season of 1987-88 he was the San Francisco prep player of the year, and he went on to be a four-year letterman at point guard at the University of San Diego.

He played professionally for nine years in Europe and Asia, and also played in the National Basketball Alliance, the predecessor to the National Basketball Developmental League.

Prior to joining the staff at Delta, Strickland was the head girls’ coach at Edison High in Stockton.

“He’s a character guy who will represent our school well,” Matoso said. “I know a lot of people who know him and I’m confident he’ll do a good job for us.”
