-- At least a five-way race is shaping up for two seats on the Turlock City Council. Incumbent Mary Jackson has taken out papers to run and council colleague Amy Bublak announced she will seek a second term in the Nov. 6 election.

The first person to complete the paperwork for the Turlock council was Steven Nascimento, a staff member for state Sen. Anthony Cannella and previously for Rep. Dennis Cardoza. Sergio A. Alvarado and Ashour Badal also have taken out papers for the Turlock council.

The race for two seats on the Riverbank City Council also is likely to be lively, with five candidates so far.

Seven of Stanislaus County's nine cities have council elections in the fall; Ceres and Modesto elect their council members in odd-numbered years.

The filing deadline ends Aug. 10 for seats in which the incumbent is running. It is extended to Aug. 15 in races where the incumbent does not run.
