Fire destroys carport in Modesto

MODESTO -- A fire destroyed an empty carport behind a triplex home in east Modesto on Saturday afternoon, but firefighters stopped the blaze from spreading. No injuries were reported.

The fire occurred about 2:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Peppermint Drive, just east of Oakdale Road. Crews from the Modesto Regional Fire Authority got the fire under control and kept the flames from reaching nearby homes. There were no vehicles parked in the carport.
