Wolves are not just at the door in Calaveras County. They are inside and curled up near the couch.

Still, a divided county Board of Supervisors came down last week against a recommendation to legalize wolf-dog hybrids that some residents keep as pets.

"Even packs of dogs when they get together are unpredictable," board Chairman Gary Tofanelli said.

Supervisors Tom Tryon and Darren Spellman joined Tofanelli to form a board majority opposed to legalizing the pets that their admirers refer to as wolf dogs.
