I appreciated the article "Training to cover Alzheimer's care" (June 25, Page B-2) and agree we need training to help caregivers deal with behavioral changes.
However, the article quoted a physician stating that "there was previously no good program available using adult education techniques to provide hands-on practice in learning how to best help people who have dementia."
I have cared for a family member with Alzheimer's for more than 13 years, work with A Placed Called Home to help families find appropriate assistance for loved ones with dementia, volunteer with the Alzheimer's Aid Society of Modesto and support Community Hospice, which offers free "lunch and learn" training to the public.
