I have a thought about bailing out police, firefighters and teachers. One of my patients is quite high on the list of Stanislaus pensioners as published by The Bee a few years ago. What if, based on level of pay after retirement, each earner donated a portion of his or her pension to Stanislaus County or Modesto, say $25, $50, $100 or even $200,000? Some could even go to the state.
Now, I am not a bean counter, but I bet that would help with the goals above, plus even pay down some of the state's $14 billion.
What if all 58 counties adopted this voluntary program?
