Manteca's Haapanen 2nd in hammer throw

SAN MATEO -- Manteca’s Amy Haapanen, ranked sixth in the nation in the hammer throw, threw 67.09 meters (220 feet, 1 inch) en route to a second-place finish Sunday at the Pacific Association USATF Championships at College of San Mateo. Haapanen, a graduate of East Union High and a former field-events MVP of the Big West Conference at UC Santa Barbara, was beaten only by fifth-ranked Aubrey Baxter (222-8).
