— Police tipped off about a counterfeiting operation arrested two people on numerous charges this week.

According to reports, someone told officers that suspects might be making counterfeit checks in a room at the Comfort Suites motel on North Tully Road.

Officers went to the motel Tuesday afternoon and found Dawn Withersmith, 43, and Tony Cooley, 57, along with a variety of drugs and counterfeiting supplies, police said.

Investigators found methamphetamine, heroin, syringes, morphine pills, computers, printers, checks, bank cards, identity cards and Social Security cards inside the room.

Lt. Nino Amirfar said it wasn’t clear yet if any of the checks Withersmith and Cooley allegedly made had been used in the area.

Withersmith and Cooley were arrested. The case has been turned over to detectives, who are looking into the possibility other people were involved.
