-- Stanislaus County sheriff's deputy Robert Paris and locksmith Glendon Engert died Thursday after a gunman holed up in an apartment on Chrysler Drive shot them as they tried to serve an eviction notice. A fire later destroyed the home; investigators said they found a body in the burned debris but haven't identified it yet.

Monday afternoon, about 40 people participated in a march held by a group called Solidarity for U.S. Law Enforcement. Modesto resident Cheryl Avina said the group was formed after the shooting.

"We have friends in law enforcement," Avina said. "We feel like they need support."

The Sheriff's Department announced Paris' funeral will take place at noon Friday at Big Valley Church, 4040 Tully Road, Modesto. There will be a procession from the church to Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson, where there will be a graveside service.

A family spokesman said Monday that information about Engert's funeral would be released today.

Monday morning, a procession led by law enforcement vehicles took Paris' body from the coroner's office on Oakdale Road to the Franklin & Downs funeral home on 12th Street in downtown Modesto.

Community members are planning a candlelight vigil Thursday night. The vigil is set for 7:30 at Graceada Park.

For more information, a Facebook page has been set up for Paris' service.
