CERES -- A 48-year-old Ceres man has been convicted and sentenced to 16 months in prison for sending sexually suggestive text messages to a 13-year-old girl last year.
During a Feb. 6 hearing, Robert Joseph Brammer pleaded no contest to sending harmful matter with the intent to seduce a minor, the Stanislaus County district attorney's office announced Wednesday.
Prosecutors said Brammer sent text messages to the girl's phone from May 30 to June 8.
The district attorney's office also announced another criminal case that recently ended with a conviction.
Jerry Jay Edgar, 55, of Turlock was convicted of possessing methadone for sale. Methadone is used to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms during heroin addiction detoxification.
On July 31, 2009, police responded to a report of possible drug dealing at a trailer home parked on C Street in Turlock. The residents allowed officers to search the trailer.
Prosecutors said the officers found more than 150 methadone pills, new and used syringes, and other drug paraphernalia. Edgar, who was at the home, told the officers the pills and the other items belonged to him.
Edgar has convictions for drug sale offenses in 1997 and 2002. He pleaded no contest to the methadone charge as well as charges of felony theft and possession of methamphetamine from other investigations.
Judge Scott Steffen sentenced Edgar to 11 years and eight months during a hearing Feb. 6. Prosecutors said Edgar will serve nine years eight months at the Stanislaus County Jail and the remaining two years on supervised released by the Stanislaus County Probation Department.
