A gratuitous smear by McClatchy News questioning the minutia in an after-action report of Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer braving enemy fire in eastern Afghanistan to save U.S. and Afghan comrades (Dec. 15)? Ho, hum.

A slightly altered photo of an egret eating a frog(Feb. 6)? Whoa, stop the presses, fire a distinguished Sacramento Bee journalist and blast out a seven- paragraph apology.
