-- A fire caused damage to a bungalow behind a home about eight blocks southeast of Modesto Junior College early this morning, authorities said.

Firefighters with the Modesto Regional Fire Authority were called at 12:49 a.m. to 810 1/2 Wright Street, where the front corner of a small residence behind the main home was on fire, according to Chief Hugo Patino.

There were initial reports that a man was in the bungalow, but an occupant of the main home told authorities he was away on a trip.

Firefighters had the blaze contained in about 10 minutes. The roof over the front corner of the residence collapsed, Patino said.

The preliminary cause of the accidental fire is tied to an electrical failure, Patino said.

Damage was estimated at $45,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents, Patino said.
