CERES -- A woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter were injured Saturday night after being hit by a pickup at East Whitmore Avenue and Fifth Street, police reported.
Both were taken to a Modesto hospital. The woman remained there Sunday in the intensive care unit with head injuries and cuts and bruises, Sgt. Pat Sullivan said.
The granddaughter was flown Saturday to the University of California Medical Center in Sacramento. Sullivan said she was in serious condition with broken ribs and internal injuries.
He said officers have not determined who was at fault, and police continue to investigate.
The incident happened about 7:50 p.m. The woman and her granddaughter were struck by a Chevrolet pickup being driven by a 25-year-old Ceres man, said Sullivan, who added that the driver stayed at the accident.
Sullivan said it appears the driver did not have any passengers, and the woman and her granddaughter were by themselves. Sullivan did not have hometowns for the woman and granddaughter.
Police ask anyone who may have information regarding this accident to call Ceres officer Keith Kitcher at (209) 538-5700, ext. 5112.
