Officers catch man after chase near downtown Modesto

Modesto police and California Highway Patrol officers arrested a suspected auto thief Wednesday night near downtown Modesto.

Officers were chasing the man, who fled on foot in the area near Magnolia Avenue and Needham Street about 7 p.m.

Witnesses said patrol cars flooded the neighborhood near Graceada Park as they set up a perimeter around the area in which the man was believed to be hiding.

Some officers reportedly were on foot checking yards as they looked for the man. He was caught short time later.
