MODESTO -- Police arrested four teenage girls suspected of stealing a car from a man at gunpoint Friday night on Kansas Avenue in Modesto, and investigators on Saturday were looking for two other suspects seen running from the stolen vehicle.
The carjacking occurred about 9 p.m. at American Budget Inn and Suites in the 700 block of Kansas Avenue, just west of Highway 99.
The victim called police to report eight gang members had stolen his black Dodge Charger at gunpoint and the car was last seen on the highway leaving the area, said Modesto police Lt. Jolene Gonzales. No shots were fired during the armed robbery.
Gonzales said the victim did not indicate whether the suspects were male or female. About two hours later, police spotted the stolen car near Rouse Avenue and Mamilane.
The driver of the Charger stopped and six occupants ran from the car in various directions, Gonzales said. Two of the occupants got away, and it was unclear to police if they were females or males.
Officers quickly chase down the four girls, who ranged in age 14 to 17. Gonzales the victim later identified the girls as the suspects in the armed robbery. The four were arrested on suspicion of carjacking.
Police did not release the girls names because they are minors. The officers did not recover the gun believed to have been used in the crime.
