Golden Gates

Musicians, dancers and singers from Russia come to the Gallo Center next week to present a view of Russian folklore. Golden Gates brings the Russian culture alive with choreography and explosive routines, along with colorful costumes and exotic sounds.

Eric Johnson

Guitar hero Eric Johnson is best known for his million-selling 1990 album, "Ah Via Musicom," featuring the Grammy Award-winning instrumental single "Cliffs of Dover." His latest album is "Up Close," which features a mix of rock, country, pop, blues and jazz and includes guest appearances by Sonny Landreth, Steve Miller, Jimmy Vaughan and Jonny Lang. He will be joined at his Modesto show by bassist Chris Maresh and drummer Wayne Salzmann.

Jeff Moorad

The Gallo Center for the Arts continues its Hometown Heroes series Saturday with a presentation from former sports agent and MLB owner Jeff Moorad. Moorad was a heavy hitter in the sports management world for many years, representing athletes from football, baseball and basketball. Now, the former Modestan is the lead owner of the San Diego Padres major-league baseball franchise. He returns to his hometown to offer an insider's glimpse into the high-level world of professional sports management, teams and players.

'Mikado'

Townsend Opera Players updates Gilbert and Sullivan's 1885 musical comedy, "The Mikado," for the 21st century by moving the show to modern Japan and adding anime characters, smart cars, cell phones and laptops. Director Joe Wiggett will show the clash between three levels of society – the young, modern, hip set, the middle ground and the old guard trying to hang on. There will be videos showing in the lobby before the show and during intermission, giving a look at what's happening backstage.

Peter Rabbit

Beatrix Potter's famous friend, Peter Rabbit, comes alive in a children's production at the Gallo Center for the Arts. The show, for children in kindergarten through grade five, is set in the English countryside, where Peter Rabbit and his good friend Benjamin Bunny reside.
