Fees for vital records will go up $2 on the first day of the next three years.

State legislation in October requires the increase, which "more accurately reflects the actual cost," according to a news release from Lee Lundrigan, Stanislaus County clerk-recorder.

On Jan. 1, people will pay $21 for birth certificates, $11 for fetal death certificates and $14 for death certificates. The fees will increase again in 2013 and 2014.

Also, Lundrigan's office will charge $2,919 to file environmental impact reports, up from $2,839.

Costs for other environmental documents will go up annually as well, in accordance with legislation passed in 2006.
