Shooting kills man in Merced

— A shooting incident in Merced's Loughborough area Friday night has turned into a homicide investigation.

The victim, a male pedestrian, was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being shot about 7:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Loughborough Drive. About 1 a.m. Saturday, police said the victim had died.

The victim was outside near the Oak Terrace Apartments and shots were fired, according to Lt. Roger McIntyre. The victim hasn't been identified. Officers set up a perimeter on Loughborough between M and R streets and processed the scene.

No description of the shooter or shooters was available. Merced police are asking anyone with information to call Sgt. Scott Skinner at (209) 385-4702 or the department's automated tipline at (209) 385-4725.
