Two candidates who tied in the Newman school board election could decide the matter Monday by drawing lots.
The race between Roselee Hurst and Laura Elkinton was the only one left unsettled in final results released Friday by the Stanislaus County elections office.
Hurst and Elkinton each had 357 votes in the election for the third of three seats on the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District board. Tim Bazar and Janice Conforti won the other seats.
As allowed by state law, the district plans to decide the election by random drawing at a special board meeting. The exact procedure has not been determined, Superintendent Ed Felt said.
The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at the district office, 890 Main St., Newman.
The results released Friday include the last of the ballots that needed to be counted from the Nov. 8 election. Unless candidates ask for recounts, the outcomes will stand.
The election drew a turnout of 22.43 percent of the county's 227,278 registered voters, clerk-recorder Lee Lundrigan reported.
