How we serve those in need: At the Berberian Shelter and Transitional Living Center, there is provision of food and shelter, but, most important, the priceless opportunity of a new start. One such story is about a veteran who served honorably in the armed forces. However, the all-too-common formula of poor choices left him financially, emotionally and spiritually destitute and alone. Entering through the door of second chances, our veteran found lodging, food and a heaping serving of hope. Taking advantage of the transitional living program has provided our weary wanderer a place to stay for two years and a program designed to provide tools for success. He has fully embraced this program, as witnessed by his graduation from Modesto Junior College and his restoration of self-esteem and subsequent reconciliation with his family. Our friend even gives back to the community by volunteering at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
