I was pleased to see an article on the Uptown Arena by community columnist James McAndrews (Nov. 6, Page B-2). For two decades, the arena was a hub of entertainment for local boxing, wrestling and music fans, and the focus of my family's life.
While I am not familiar with the full history of the building, I know that my father and his partner, Jack Lamb, converted it to its original purpose in the mid-'60s. For the next 20 years, my mother, Artis Miller, and father, Johnny Miller, ran the arena through good times and bad. The arena was also host to several community theater productions, including one I wrote and directed.
All of these events were well-chronicled in The Bee. It is disappointing that they were not included in this history article. The Millers have many fond memories of the Uptown Arena and the folks who attended regularly.
