The second man suspected in a 2009 murder of a gas station clerk is now in custody.

Ernesto Morales Jr., 22, of Merced was arrested Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of Harinder Sanghera, 28, of Ceres, according to Sgt. Anthony Bejaran.

Sanghera was shot during a botched robbery involving two suspects at the Gas N Shop on south Ninth Street, where he worked as a clerk.

Last week Mark Burgess surrendered to Merced police for his alleged role in the shooting. During interviews with Burgess detectives identified Morales as the second suspect in the shooting, Bejaran said. Morales was apprehended by the Merced Multi-Agency Gang Task Force at Merced College at 2 p.m. and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail later that afternoon.
