Local music promoter Chris Ricci says pop-rock band Panic! At the Disco will not play a makeup show, despite plans to do so after cancelling at the last minute and missing a planned headlining performance at this summer's X-Fest in downtown Modesto.
"As soon as Chris Ricci Presents received the unexpected news of the last-minute cancellation ... we also began discussions with the band's management on how to make good on their commitment to play for Central Valley fans at X-Fest. They indicated they would," Ricci wrote in a press release. "Two months later, after successfully negotiating with California State University, Stanislaus, to use Warrior Arena for a Panic! At the Disco replay concert on Nov. 13, Chris Ricci Presents made a substantial offer to the band's agent. Unfortunately, it now appears that the agent will not be able to accept this offer and Panic! At the Disco's performance in the Central Valley will not be rescheduled."
Panic! At the Disco canceled its Modesto appearance hours before the Aug. 6 event due to a family emergency. Ricci said at the time that the father of drummer Spencer Smith was gravely ill.
Local favorite Flying Blind, which played many of the early X-Fests and had recently re-formed, stepped in to fill Panic! At the Disco's spot.
"Receiving a band cancellation mere hours before the event is frustrating," Ricci said in the press release, "and it is more frustrating when the band is unable to fulfill their obligation to the fans."
