Modesto plant cleanup in the works

October 20, 2011

Stanislaus County sent a team of workers to inspect the abandoned manufacturing facility on North Star Way in north Modesto on Thursday, and Supervisor Dick Monteith said some immediate cleanup plans will be announced Monday.

Business neighbors of the former Indalex aluminum company have been angry about the lack of response as scavengers have hauled away metals and other materials and old company records were strewn about.

After two front-page stories in The Bee in the past week, county officials indicated Wednesday that they would meet to determine what they can do since no one claims ownership of the complex.
