Two Modesto High School students were injured, one critically, in a collision that halted traffic on Scenic Drive for nearly four hours Wednesday morning.
A 17-year-old Ceres resident was driving a silver Honda Civic west on Scenic at about 7:30 a.m. with her 16-year-old passenger from Modesto, according to Modesto police Lt. Rick Armendariz.
For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into eastbound traffic where the passenger side of the Honda was broadside by a blue Mitsubishi Eclipse.
The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries and her female passenger was critically injured. The teenagers were taken to local hospitals. The passenger is listed in critical but stable condition, Armendariz said.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 36-year-old Lodi resident, was not injured.
Police did not release the names of the people involved in the wreck.
Armendariz said speed and road conditions are believed to be contributing factors. The street was slippery after nearly an inch of rain fell overnight.
