A Keyes man is dead and his passenger in serious condition after his vehicle overturned and crashed into several almond trees on a country road south of Del Rio.
About 9:15 p.m. Monday, Remigio Gurrola, 45, was traveling west on Ladd Road in a 2004 Kia at an unknown speed, said California Highway Patrol officer Eric Parsons.
When he was just west of Tully Road, Gurrola started to veer to the right and onto the gravel shoulder for unknown reasons.
He overcorrected to the left and lost control of the vehicle, Parsons said.
The Kia traveled across both lanes of the two-lane road and into an almond orchard, where it struck multiple trees and overturned several times.
Gurrola and his passenger were wearing seatbelts; neither was ejected, but Gurrola died at the scene from his injuries, Parsons said.
The passenger, 47-year-old Elvira Juarez of Keyes, was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries, Parsons said.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor in the accident, Parsons said.
