FREMONT — Rodrigo Padilla scored four goals and Garrett Porter saved 11 shots in the cage Wednesday afternoon during Modesto Junior College's 12-7 nonleague water polo win over Ohlone.

The Pirates (5-1) also featured Ryan Calou, Austin Ruggeberg and Manuel Bettencourt with two goals apiece and Cameron Domasky and Jacob Castro with one apiece. MJC opens Big 8 Conference action at home next Wednesday against Santa Rosa.

• MJC WOMEN'S WATER POLO — Fresno jumped to a 5-0 lead and coasted to a 13-8 Big 8-opening win over the Pirates (1-5, 0-1). Kim DeLeon, Priscilla Acosta and Karri Carrick had two goals apiece for Modesto, and Samantha Seiff and Jessica Carwyn each scored one. Goalkeeper Carlee Sousa registered 15 saves.

• CSUS WOMEN'S SOCCER — Cal State Stanislaus, 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and 3-0-1 overall, is ranked No. 23 in the nation (NCAA Division II) and No. 3 in the West Region. The poll is conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The Warriors, who defeated Humboldt State and Chico State last weekend, trail UC San Diego and Cal State Dominguez Hills in the region.
