VISALIA -- Modesto's Edwar Cabrera completely baffled a lot of Visalia batters on Friday night, striking out six of them in seven innings all swinging.
But David Nick wasn't among them.
The Visalia slugger hit a two-run homer his 12th in the sixth inning to lead the Rawhide to a 3-2 win over Modesto in a California League baseball game.
With the Stockton Ports losing to Inland Empire on Friday night, the loss didn't hurt the Nuts in the wild-card race; they remain two behind the Ports.
Modesto went ahead of Visalia in its half of the sixth inning when Angelys Nina singled then stole second and got to third on a passed ball. After Visalia's Brad Wilson walked Modesto's Jared Clark, he was replaced by Blake Cooper who promptly threw a wild pitch that allowed Nina to score and give the Nuts a 2-1 lead.
It was Cabrera's first loss against four wins. Josh Rutledge hit his 31st double and Kiel Roling hit homer No. 15 for Modesto.
