For the first time in at least 10 years, Modesto players have earned both player and pitcher of the week honors in the California League.

Nolan Arenado, who hit .417 with three homers and 14 RBI over seven games, was named the league's hitter of the week. The third baseman added a three-run triple in Sunday's win and leads all of professional baseball with 111 RBI.

Chad Bettis, who went 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA in two starts, notching 14 strikeouts against two walks in 12 innings of work, earned the nod as pitcher of the week.

The weekly kudos came in just as the ballots for season honors were being submitted around the league.

The end-of-year all-Cal League team will be revealed sometime next week, but an informal straw poll indicates that Bettis has a strong shot at being voted pitcher of the year, injured right fielder Kent Matthes is getting consideration as league MVP, while Arenado and shortstop Josh Rutledge appear to be headed for all-league position honors.
