MODESTO — A Modesto woman was shot to death Sunday afternoon during an altercation with her husband in their northeast Modesto home, police said.
The husband was being held and questioned by detectives Sunday night at the Modesto Police Department, according to Lt. Rick Armendariz.
Armendariz said officers were dispatched about 4:47 p.m. to a home in the 3300 block of Creek Bed Court, about a quarter mile southeast of Enochs High School.
Armendariz said officers started first aid, and the woman was transported to a Modesto hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Armendariz said he expects the husband will be arrested.
Police did not release the names of the husband and wife, but Armendariz said the couple are in their 50s and lived at the home where the shooting took place.
At this point what we know, Armendariz said, is that he is responsible for shooting his wife, and were are trying to determine what led up to the shooting, the events and the motive.
Armendariz said officers received two calls regarding a dispute between the couple. He said the first call came from the womans daughter, who reported the couple were in a verbal dispute.
The second call reported that the dispute had escalated and the woman may have been shot.
Armendariz said officers had been at the home in the past because of disputes between the husband and wife.
Police were waiting Sunday evening for a judge to sign a search warrant before detectives and crime scene technicians entered the home to process the crime scene.
