MercyMe will be bringing its motivating Christian sound to the Stanislaus County Fair. The multiplatinum-selling band will perform Monday on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m.
The concert is hosted by Celebration Radio 101.5 KAMB and is free with the price of fair admission. Since the release of its first album in 2001, MercyMe has made a splash on the Christian music scene. The band was named America's Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist at the 2010 American Music Awards for its latest album, "The Generous Mr. Lovewell."
MercyMe previously took home the title in 2004 and since then has sold nearly 6 million records. "The Generous Mr. Lovewell" sold nearly 90,000 copies its first week, debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top 200 chart and atNo. 1 on Christian SoundScan. The album has already garnered the band a No. 1 single with "All of Creation." It revolves around a fictional character band members created to remind listeners to love others well.

JUDAISM AND THE HEBREW LANGUAGE Congregation Beth Shalom is offering a series of courses for the community to learn about Judaism and the Hebrew language. The program is called Chavurat Binah Shaleim, which means "a friendly group of people whose purpose is complete understanding." Cost of all classes will be covered by purchasing a "passport" for $108. Classes are free to congregation members. Classes will be at Congregation Beth Shalom, 1705 Sherwood Ave., Modesto.
