The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department on Monday released the name of the Modesto man found shot to death in south Modesto during the weekend and are asking for the public's help to locate a person of interest.

Rogelio Guerrero, 34, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in a vacant lot in the 500 block of Olivero Road, just south of Crows Landing and Hatch roads, according to Sgt. Anthony Bejaran. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives said Salvador Magana was a person of interest in the investigation. He is Latino, in his mid- to late 30s, about 6 feet tall, weighing about 230 pounds and has a goatee.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined, but Bejaran said detectives are not investigating it as gang related.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Kenny Hedrick at (209) 525-7083. Callers can leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Tipsters can e-mail tips through www.modestopolice.com/CrimeStoppers or text them to CRIMES (274637) by typing "Tip704" plus a message.
