Fresh smell of marijuana leads to Sonora arrest

last updated: April 14, 2011 11:05:53 AM

A traffic stop in Sonora turned into a felony drug arrest Wednesday night when the officer smelled the scent of fresh marijuana in the car.

The officer who pulled over Arnold Tinoco, 19 of Murphys, also noticed that his 17-year-old passenger hid something inside the vehicle, according to Police Chief Mark Stinson.

Upon a search of the vehicle the officer found 60 grams of marijuana individually packaged in different quantities.

The 17-year-old was cited for concealment of evidence and released to his father, Stinson said.

Tinoco, however, was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of marijuana for sale, furnishing a minor with marijuana and transporting over an ounce of marijuana.
