Stanislaus County has 228 direct taxing districts and 53 school bonds that boost annual property taxes beyond the basic 1 percent of assessed property value.

They collect extra taxes for things like ambulance service, fire protection, flood control, hospitals, lighting, landscape maintenance, public safety, reclamation, schools, sewers and sanitation, storm drains, water and assorted government services.
