California State University, Stanislaus, commemorates a valley oak tree grove planted 21 years ago by the late Wayne Pierce, a botanist, and his wife Donna as part of an effort to create an outdoor classroom.

Although Wayne Pierce died in 2008, his wife kept the project going.

She was joined by Former state Sen. Dan McCorquodale, a supporter of the project, and about 50 others joined in the celebration Tuesday night Twenty-one years ago, botanist Wayne Pierce and his supporters gathered to plant acorns and saplings, the beginning of an outdoor classroom project at California State University, Stanislaus.
