Nearly 150 DUI arrests in Stanislaus

A dozen Stanislaus County law enforcement agencies arrested 141 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a crackdown that began Aug. 20 and ended Monday night.

California Highway Patrol officers as well as members of the Sheriff's Department and various police agencies banded together to focus on impaired drivers.

The program was funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety with money from the federal government.

A year ago, 182 DUI arrests were made during the same period.

In Ripon, a checkpoint program over the holiday weekend led to one DUI arrest, another for public intoxication, three for various drug charges and one of a 17-year-old riding his bicycle erratically, according to a news release.

Eight vehicles were impounded.
