Today at the Stanislaus County Fair

• WHAT TO SEE: Visit the farm. Each day of the fair, volunteers from area 4-H clubs are staffing the Farmyard Experience. Children of all ages can enjoy learning about life on the farm, the heart of the fair experience. Pet animals, meet baby ducks, see where milk comes from before it gets to the carton. Visit a farmers market, and let your little one dig for potatoes and turn wheat into flour. From 5 to 10 p.m. (noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday) near the livestock arena.

• HIGHLIGHTS: 4-H and FFA sheep showmanship, 5 p.m.; senior barbecue ribs contest and judging, 6 p.m.; junior art contest and judging, 6:30 p.m.

• ARENA: Quad drags and motorcycle jumpers, 7 p.m.

• VARIETY FREE STAGE: Jack Ingram and Chuck Wicks, 8:30 p.m.

• CENTER STAGE: Ernie Bucio's Latin Funk Band, 7 to 11 p.m.

• COMMUNITY STAGE: Highway 99 Band, 5:45 to 8:30 p.m.

• CHARTER STAGE: Steve Bayner Hypnotist Show, 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

• HOURS: Gates open at 5 p.m.; exhibit buildings close at 11 p.m.; carnival closes at midnight

• PARK 'N' RIDE: 4:30 p.m. to midnight; park and ride free from California State University, Stanislaus (Crowell Road off Monte Vista Avenue) or Pitman High School (Christoffersen Parkway). Shuttles run every 15 to 20 minutes.

• WHERE: From Highway 99, exit at Fulkerth Road in Turlock and head east. For fairgrounds parking, turn right on Soderquist Road, or go past Soderquist for more parking; $4 per vehicle.

• ADMISSION: $12 for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for ages 5 and younger
