• WHAT TO DO: Come out and watch kids show off their hard work. Many of the livestock shows and judging events take place before the fair is open, but you can see 4-H and FFA dairy goat showmanship at 5 p.m. in the goat show ring. Local children raise their animals and then compete in the judging; later, the animals are auctioned off -- you can watch that, too.
• HIGHLIGHTS: Junior decorated cookies contest and judging, 5:15 p.m.; Country Crossroads Quilters, 6-9 p.m.; junior art contest and judging, 6:30 p.m.
• ARENA: Destruction Derby 1, 7 p.m.
• VARIETY FREE STAGE: Natalie Grant with Tenth Avenue North, 8:30 p.m.
• CENTER STAGE: Kari Crain, KAMB Christian Artist Search Winner, 6-6:30 p.m.; No Taboo band, 7-11 p.m.
• COMMUNITY STAGE: The Bluegrass Conspiracy, 5:45-8:30 p.m.
• CHARTER STAGE: Steve Bayner Hypnotist Show, 8:30 and 10 p.m.
• HOURS: Gates open at 5 p.m.; exhibit buildings close at 11 p.m.; carnival closes at midnight.
• PARK 'N' RIDE: 4:30-midnight; park and ride free from CSU, Stanislaus (Crowell Road off Monte Vista Avenue), or Pitman High School (Christoffersen Parkway). Shuttles run every 15-20 minutes.
• WHERE: From Highway 99, exit at Fulkerth Road in Turlock and head east. For fairgrounds parking, turn right on Soderquist Road, or go past Soderquist for more parking; $4 per vehicle.
